    Finding Beauty In Mistakes

    Finding Beauty In Mistakes
    You guys.

This has been one rough week.

I could write a list of things that went wrong. Then again, you probably saw most of what would be on that list right here on this site. The next time I wake up one morning and decide I am a website designer, I want you to reach your arms through the monitors of your computers, wrap your loving arms firmly around my neck… and shake me. Hard.

This past week has been the worst in major catastrophes for this site alone, and it is totally, utterly, INEXPLICABLY my fault. I can’t blame faulty equipment. Can’t blame the design forums. Can’t blame my hosting provider. Can’t blame the poor techno-geeks who, after the 5,000th question, surely realized they had an amateur on their hands. I could literally feel their Coke-bottled glasses shaking at me in shame.

I must say I’ve learned a lot about my skills and limitations this week. I’ve also learned that when you think you need to take a break, step back from the computer, maybe stop writing on the site for a while and get your head together, reflect on having turned 32 and all those good things, the craziest thing happens. The universe takes you seriously, makes your site completely unusable, throws your design askew, and then says here. You wanted a break? You got one.

In my time away (aside from the hours, and hours… and more hours spent planted right here in the battleground of PHP, FTP and CSS), you’ll take heart in knowing I missed you guys… the one or two of you that may still be out there. I took lots of pictures, had some great moments that made me go hey! I need to write about this! Then had both kids contaminated with H1N1 (or some form of it), while me and BFam tackled our respective head colds.

    Did I mention I turned 32?

    Good times. Good times.

More to come in the days ahead. Promise. And to those who stuck around… thanks.

    The Giving Spirit

    Giving2

My husband is so nice sometimes I swear he’s the woman in the relationship.

June is wedding season and, during that time alone, it seemed like everyone we knew was using the month to live up to the cliche. BFam is a nice guy – funny, witty, knows a little about a lot. He does not, I repeat, DOES NOT do weddings. Something about the whole concept seems fake to him, he says. He should know. He’s been in at least one himself.

While he’s allergic to the thought of ceremonies, he is a great gift-giver.

    Giving1

He’s even a great gift wrapper. There are no bulging corners, no excess paper to cut, no tears, no excessive amounts of tape.

    Giving3

That would be me. And look at this wrapping paper, why don’t you?! The guy has got some serious taste. Even goes the extra mile and gets that curly, frilly stuff that goes on top. It’s not ribbon… anyone know what that stuff is called? Gift topping? Garnishing?

Great, now I just made the gift a turkey.

You can tell I’m not in charge of the gifts in my house.

    Giving4

And I’m totally fine with that because when you have a husband who buys pretty, sparkly, well-designed wrapping like this, your job is pretty easy. No, not the job of wrapping (see above: I suck). The gift of sitting on your butt and watching. Oh, and saying, “I think you missed a spot.”

Anyone need a good gift wrapper-slash-buyer for Christmas? I might rent him out if the price is right. Of course, I haven’t told him yet, so… yeah.

    Chez Bottomless Pit

    Chez Bottomless Pit

Booger is hitting a growth spurt.

    Chez Bottomless Pit

I remember these hunger pangs. When you’re nothing but limbs and hair, it seems nothing can satisfy you.

    Chez Bottomless Pit

Not your food. Not your mother’s food. Not your sister’s food. Not your dad’s food.

    Chez Bottomless Pit

Not the dog’s food. And I wouldn’t try it, you know, child abuse laws and all. But I don’t think bottomless pits have discriminating palates.

    Chez Bottomless Pit

She doesn’t know it yet, but she just ate her college fund.

    Chez Bottomless Pit

Hope those looks can get her somewhere my pockets can’t. Sheesh!

FEAR No. 048 – The Mind Trick

FEAR No. 048 - The Mind Trick

On Sunday mornings, I would love getting the Sunday edition of the newspaper. It was so full and spilling over with colorful ads, and even more colorful Sunday comics. I love the funnies. All that other stuff – the gloom and doom and *blech* news was bo-ring. The world, at the time, consisted of me in my PJ’s in my living room. What did I care about the things venturing outside this realm? Are they serving hot cocoa out there? Playing hopscotch? Making pancakes? Snooze. NEXT!

    Fear Motivator

What happens when you have a lot of time, a camera, and your children’s Happy Meal toys.

    Oh, and some double-sided tape.

Boy, I’d hate to see what I’m like should I ever lose my job. Or become a SAHM. Or a bum. At least I’d be a creative bum.
