Happy Accidents

Eddie: I am grateful for you. In all the world, thing I am most grateful for is you.
Kiki: If that’s a line from one of your movies…
Eddie: No, that one’s mine.
–America’s Sweethearts, 2001

I probably wasn’t supposed to have such great kids, but I do.
Given the type of things I thought about life; the way I wanted to end mine so quickly; the deep, dark holes I wasn’t able to pull myself out of alone; the fact that I never thought I’d want to or get to be someone’s mother… it makes me grateful I stuck around a little longer. Grateful I was given so many chances (you have no idea) to get it right.

I probably wasn’t supposed to have goofy friends, but I do…
And sometimes they grow and leave you behind. But that doesn’t mean you don’t still think of them, or continue to be compelled to call them “friend”. After all, birds have to fly.

I probably wasn’t supposed to marry my best friend, but I did.
Probably wasn’t supposed to marry someone shorter than me either, but, you know. Whatever. *wink*

Probably shouldn’t love to take pictures the way I do considering how GREAT I am at it, and all. But I do.
Hey, we can’t all be Annie Leibovitz. Doesn’t stop me from trying, though.

I probably shouldn’t love dogs more than people…
…Wait a minute. What am I saying?

I probably shouldn’t have taken a photo of this squirrel…
…Considering I’d be lobbed in the head by an acorn moments later. AND IT WAS HIM, I JUST KNOW IT. That’s alright, little squirrel. I know where you live. This isn’t over.
Good shot though.
What happy accidents are you grateful for?

I love this post.
I’ve had many, many happy accidents in my life. In fact, they’re the things that have made me the most content. Planning is sometimes underrated.
I’m starting to appreciate accidents a lot more. I used to be all about the planning. Planning gives me ulcers.
My happy accident- working on the jobsite where I met Miss Carol decades and centuries ago.
Awwwwww! That is so sweet!
And I see you’re a Chickenfoot fan. You’re the second guy blogger I’ve heard mention them this week! I feel like I’m missing out. And just when I wondered whatever happened to Sammy Hagar.
Two major happy accidents in my life.
The first: Meeting my now husband. While a junior in high school a friend convinced me to take her over to the college dorms so she could return something to her friend Mike. I explained that my mother would kill me if she knew. My friend insisted it would be a quick drop off. We got to the dorm, and she proceeded to say “your not going to make me go in alone are you?” Once we reached Mike’s floor she said “oh, and I want you to meet Mike’s friend (my future husband).” I don’t believe in love at first site, but I do believe there are deep unexplainable attractions. I married him 5 years later.
The second: I grew up with 4 brothers, no sisters. I had always hoped to have children – boys. My first child – a girl. Oh No! What was I going to do with a girl? I know nothing about girls – well, at least not personality wise. I was/am a tomboy. I now have 2 girls and 2 boys, and I couldn’t be happier. My first freaked me out with all of her pink, frilly, fairy stuff, but she is the most amazing little being. My second daughter is the spitting image of my husband, and truth be told it is so much fun to give him heck about his female mini me.
I love that. Those friends of friends always end up being more.
Ha! Well, being an only child, I could’ve gone either way with what I’d gotten and still been clueless. Guess having girls was the easiest route but, oh, the hair combing! I want a boy just so he can get a hair cut!
