iPlay Friday: Maxwell

During my darkest and happiest times, music has always been a comfort to me. I’m sure the same can be said for most, at least I hope so. Who can’t forget that song that makes you feel like you’re at your first school dance? Or experiencing your first crush? First break-up?

I used to feature albums I was listening to at the moment. I don’t know what happened, but I stopped. Maybe there was nothing worth featuring. I haven’t been crazy about what’s been getting airplay these days, and at the risk of making everyone think I’m older than I really am, I’ve been resisting the urge to dig in milk crates for vinyl or extremely retro tunes. Recently, someone began making his rounds in the “Where the hell have you been?” circuit and, from what I’ve heard so far, it’s been so worth the wait.



If you’ve never heard of this man… WHY? WHY HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF THIS MAN?! What is WRONG with you? (For any of my Caucasian readers, if there are any readers of any color, I’ll give you a pass. But it’s only temporary because now I’ve told you which means you need to go out there and get all his previous albums right now.) He was gone for eight years (EIGHT YEARS, PEOPLE), which is a long time even in music industry standards. Creative people have a tendency to give you product that leaves you wanting more, then disappear. You call it a tease. They call it freedom to find their creativity. It’s very frustrating.

Then you play this… *sigh*. All is forgiven, you creative enigma, you.

Can I just say that it sucks being poor right now? Check out his first single, won’t you? Pure bliss. (And if anyone attended his mini concerts last year, I have written you out of the will. Suffer with knowing you missed out on some good pocket lint should I kick the bucket.)
