Trash Talk

“LeBron James is injured. Who didn’t see THIS coming?”
“Good.”
“WHAT?! Why would you say something like that?!”
“This is what he gets for all that smack about the Indians during their post-season with the Yankees.”
“Look, I don’t really care for him. I don’t. But do you see what the CAVS look like without him? Do you remember those dark days? I don’t want to go back to the dark days.”
“Whatever. It doesn’t matter anyway. The Browns are playing well, so you know another Cleveland team has to suck it as a direct result.”
“I keep telling people that. No one wants to believe me. It’s the Cleveland sports team curse. All the teams can’t do well at the same time. When the Indians were up, the Browns sucked. When the Indians started losing, the Browns were up. Now the Browns are up. LeBron gets injured.”
“Rightfully so.”
“Woman. You know not what you speak. Dark days. I can’t. Can’t go back.”
Harvest Season

With minimal glimmers of fair union hope of the writer’s strike verging to a close (Please, corporate capitalistic pigs!), I’ve had time to reflect on my TV watching. By reflection I mean weeding out the shows I absolutely know I’m not going watch – ever. And making a decision on the shows I may still be on the fence about.
My schedule was quite expansive. Unrealistic but expansive. I don’t know how I thought I would be able to watch all that TV, and have a job. And have children. And talk to my husband. And bathe. And eat. Eating’s good. Surprisingly, most of my original roster from last Fall is still in tact. I still have quite a few new shows to add to my arsenal. Lucky for me, all of them have been renewed for next season so far. Yay! Let’s recap, shall we?
Good harvest:
- Chuck (renewed) – Computer geek accidentally saving the world. Nerds rejoice.
- Damages (renewed) – Because you can’t get any colder than Glenn Close. That’s a frigid mamma-jamma fo’ yo’ dramma.
- Journeyman (still in question) – I teeter. Get some more consistently good episodes under your belt and a way to make the main character’s former lover less annoying, and we may have something.
- Life (renewed) – This show? Screw the cop drama premise. Give me Charlie! He is awesome. “I am not my car.” [hee-hee] Watch it, you’ll get it.
- Private Practice (renewed) – Two words: Taye. Diggs. Thank you and goodnight.
- Dirty Sexy Money (still in question) – All star cast, people. And after the way HBO killed Nate on Six Feet Under, the man needs redemption, people. REDEMPTION.
- Pushing Daisies (still in question) – Writers, whenever you come back, I have a suggestion. Let Ned touch Chuck. You’ll be glad you did. The fans will love you. Ticker tape parades will abound.
- Samantha Who (still in question) – Just renew the show. You know you want to.
Barn burners:
- Bionic Woman – Because… have you seen that show? I mean, REALLY seen it? Without your corneas falling out? No?
- My Name Is Earl – I survived one season of red-neckness. I think I’m good.
- ER – I’ve met the devil. Her name is Shonda Rhimes.
- Reaper – Speaking of the devil… cute show. Bad time slot.
Tried & True:
- Desperate Housewives – The tornado is coming. Here’s a spoiler: Lynette will live. Know how I know? Because the creator of the show is not a stupid man.
- Lost – Coming February 2008… maybe [See corporate capitalist commie heartless bastard pigs comment above. I didn't say all that, you say? Yeah I did. Look harder.]
- Heroes – Tim Kring? You’d better get it together when this strike is over. That’s all I’m going to say.
- Brothers & Sisters – Only my DVR knows what’s going on with that show right now, but it’s Sally Field and hot, hot brother Justin. HOT. Did I mention Justin is hot?
- Boston Legal – Denny Crain.
- Scrubs – Again. My DVR is dutifully storing these for me until future viewing.
- The Office – It has always been my dream to be Dwight Schrute – in my Second Life. And spend my Schrute bucks.
- 30 Rock – Dr. Space Man! Hilarious.
- Ugly Betty – Have you SEEN this season?! Holy crap. SO mad at the writer’s strike right now.
- Smallville – Hurry up and end this disaster. Slap on some tights. Get him in the air. The end.
- Supernatural – SO behind on this. To be continued…
- Grey’s Anatomy – BAILEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, when I made my roster sheet before, I never realized what an eye trick it is to have things listed in a horizontal view. Now that it’s in vertical, bulleted format, I am totally and completely convinced that I’m full of crap.
This is weeding?!

OK, so the last post drained me. And now that the football player has passed away, the mourning is leaving me without much to add on. On to lighter things lest I depress myself any further.
In my former life, I made a big deal about writing 100 posts. Since enrolling in NaBloPoMo, I seem to have whizzed past my 100th mark and on to greater things. I don’t have time to stop. I don’t have time to celebrate. I have to post POST HASTE! When this is all over, this little event for the month of November, I will have come away with the following realizations:
- I said I wanted to do it. I did it. Who knew?
- I’d been running my mouth long enough about how I was such a bad blogger for not writing at least one post a day, every day, except on the weekends. This must be what it feels like not to make excuses. It makes me light-headed. I’m not sure I’m used to the feeling.
- This must be what it’s like to write for a living. Stephen King said a writer writes. OK, maybe Stephen King didn’t say it first, but he said it in such a way that I’d remember – as a success.
I feel like I just finished an episode of a sitcom.
The Verge of Knowing

One holiday season is coming to a close while another quickly takes form. I’ve survived many a Christmas, each one getting harder and harder on my wallet as a direct result of how my entire year has shaped up prior. This Christmas will be no harder on my budget but, as I pick up newspapers, I see it’s hard for everyone. The hardest it’s been in my recent memory.

iPlay Sunday: American Gangster

From time to time, I highlight a few songs or albums I’m currently blasting on the iPod. I tend to stray away from the overhyped in favor of the unheard, indie nobodies. Then, I’m surprised by the classics. Artists that have never – ok, rarely – let me down.
Jay-Z is one of those artists. While I said rarely, I put his rare miss with me on Kingdom Come. There were a few gems, but I’m a spoiled Jay-Z fan. I’m used to playing the track and never having to press the forward button. Repeat, yes. Forward – nah. His latest epic, American Gangster, is worth the overhyping and praise it’s garnered as of late. BFam has not let this disc leave the CD player in the car, or his MP3 player (not an iPod; we do not speak of this in mixed company). I am hardly a beats or samples lover so much as I am a words lover. With this disc, I’m both. I love that I listen to it and go, “Man, what SAMPLE is that he’s using? I have GOT to go through my mother’s vinyl and find this.”
That’s right. I said vinyl. Don’t hate.
Two samples that truly stand out are from Marvin Gaye (not much to say there other than MUSICAL GENIUS), and someone I’d never heard of before: Little Beaver. I’ll let you research on your own with that one. Interesting stuff. In the meantime, enjoy!
