FEAR No. 001 – Opportunity Knocking

By nature, I’m a pessimist. In my quest to become this great whatever-it-is-I’m-supposed-to-be, I have to quell the nagging voice holding me back at every turn. I have to, figuratively, jump from the cliff. But, is it really jumping from the cliff when you’re the only one who thinks it’s hard?
One of my favorite shows on TV right now is “Run’s House”. I’m sure everyone is familiar with it…
Modern day Huxtables meet lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. Good stuff. Any fan of the show knows Rev. Run closes each episode soaking in his lavish marble, bubble-filled tub, fingers poised on his CrackBerry, typing out his daily Words of Wisdom to friends and family. The show (and those words) have become so popular, that a website is dedicated to reaching the masses. Like any evangelist nowadays, you do have to pay to pray (luckily, my mother is a fan as well, and offered to foot the bill – not a hefty price, but when you’ve got two mouths to feed… don’t get me started).
Today’s WOW (as I like to call them) spoke of doing what you love. Doing what you love is what you were called to do – why do you think you’re good at it? God made it easy to let the gift shine through. WE make it hard. If you’re good at what you love to do, utilize that gift and the money will follow. It’s just that easy. Sounds like common sense, right? Why do we fight it? The saying goes, “Let go and let God”. Why don’t we?
While this isn’t my number one fear, I am starting from the beginning. Missing opportunities is a big one for me. Let’s see if this has a snowball affect to realizing the rest of my fears. Depressing? Definitely. Cathartic? Eh. It’s getting there.
